Is Jealousy Getting the Better of You?

Genesis 4

2 Later she gave birth to his brother and named him Abel.

When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground. 3 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought a gift—the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, 5 but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.

6 “Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? 7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

8 One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.”[c] And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him.

This may be extreme jealousy in that it resulted in death but the point is, just because someone else may get favoured over you in life there’s no need for it to affect you. It happens, get over it. You’re no one special to have everything go your way. Neither am i. We all face struggles in life, our efforts sometimes aren’t good enough for some people, that’s fine. We need to be settled and know that we’ve put in work and anything mwe get from others is a bonus. There are people who will do things better than us. There are even those people who put in less effort than us, yet still surpass us. Lets not compare ourselves to others. If others get ahead of us don’t shoot them down, don’t hold a grudge, congratulate them, because when you’re that person I’m sure you’d love someone to congratulate you too. Or at least you’d like people to recognise your efforts. Remember the golden rule

Matthew 7

12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets”

So if you begin to feel dejected, think of Cain and say to yourself, ‘NO! Today’s just not my day, but its coming!’
