Love Your Neighbour

Colossians 3

10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

This verse is stating how Christ is in everyone on earth. He died for all of us, not just those who are saved, but those who don’t know Christ also. Once we come to believe this truth we shed our ‘old selves’ and become new. Our whole outlook in life changes, at attitudes, behaviours, thoughts change as we try to become more like Christ. This new nature of ours is unlike our old self. It is dynamic and continually changing. Before we may have been living life stuck in certain habits, now we are aware of our behaviours and we must use the word to learn and understand more about Christ and life. Its like we’re conscious now, we know what not to do, for example, we should no longer be slaves to fear, we know where it comes from and we shouldn’t let it rule us through anxiety. We know where depression and misery come from, so lets remain in peace and joy just like Christ wants.

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

As Paul said, Yahuvah has forgiven us of our sins and cleansed us through the blood of Jesus. Who are we to ever judge anyone, or make anyone feel bad for their faults when we ourselves aren’t perfect.

Lets stop getting frustrated, upset, angry because they dont meet ‘our standards’. After all, we probably don’t meet other peoples standards, no one is perfect and we shouldnt act as if we are by opposing our standards on others. The only true standard is that of God and we need to educate ourselves on this as we will gain wisdom and live in a way that pleases God.

16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Its important to spread the message of Jesus Christ. The message of Jesus is having a connection with God, not material worldly things as these will never give us as much joy as a relationship with the Lord can. Only with this relationship will we be truly at peace. God wants us to be free from strife, he wants us to be happy. People may not be living by Yahuwshuas’ standards but all we can do is gently inform them of his teachings whilst keeping peace within ourselves so that we don’t get discouraged, frustrated with other people.

As the verse says, we are representatives of Christ. Lets act accordingly and always be thankful to the Lord.
