Translation of… Isaiah 60:1-3

Isaiah 60:1-3

1  Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

2  For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

3  And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Arise – Quwm; it is written in the imperative so is an ‘order’. It also has a sense of meaning arise to make good, to strengthen and accomplish something;

Shine – Owr; is also imperative, so a ‘order’. It has the sense of enlightenment

For [it has] come your light and glory of Yehoveh upon you it irradiates.

So light here is the same as above and could also mean enlightenment but probably is better as luminance

For is ‘kiy’ and it is usually used when the preceeding sentence causes the next sentence i.e. it states a reason why you should do what was said

To come is ‘bo’; it has a sense of entering, bringing forth/upon

Glory is kaved; this means and i have discussed it before, to give something weight [like in English we give weight to opinions if they are important, worthy [also the meaning of the hebrew word honour] conversely we make light of something if it is a mockery, not important or significant]

YHWH – this means the existent one, the eternal one

Upon could mean above, over or against

Irradiate has a sense of shooting forth beams, rising of light, its appearance.

Behold, for your darkness – Darkness = choshek; has a sense of destruction, misery, obscurity

It will fill the Earth – Fill = kasah; has a sense of concealing, overwheming, making plump

and gross darkness the people – it actually says gloom [araphel]; which means lowering sky, like a thick dark cloud hanging over the people]

but the LORD shall arise upon thee – well it says, and upon you Yehoveh will irradiate [shoot forth beams]

and his glory shall be seen upon thee – and his weight upon/against/over you you will see [see is ra’ah, with a sense of behold, discern, respect.

And the Gentiles shall come to thy light – and Gentiles will walk to your luminance

and kings to the brightness of thy rising – and Kings to of your rising light [same word meaning shooting forth beams/irradiate]

So We Have:

Arise [with eagerness]; be enlightened. Because brought forth is your luminance and the weight [importance significance] of the eternal one is upon you shooting forth beams of light.

For behold [if you do not arise and be enlightened], obscurity, misery and destruction will fill up and overwhelm the Earth; and gloomy dark clouds will [do so to] the people.

And upon you Yehoveh will shoot forth beams, and his weight [importance significance] over you you will behold.

And Gentiles will walk to your luminance and Kings to your shooting beams of light.

Hmm, what do you think?

I like how its easier to see where the same words are used. People say this is prophecy regards Yeshua. It makes sense. Even though the Earth was completely full and concealed with darkness and misery, and the people had this horrible dark cloud over them, Yeshua had to accept his mission with eagerness to accomplish it. Yehoveh gave Yeshua light and was constantly by his side i.e. irradiating him. But Yeshua importantly had to first be enlightened by receiving the light from Yehoveh. Only when Yeshua did behold the light from his father could the people [in obscurity, misery, gloom, concealment etc] walk towards his luminance, and could Kings see his irradiance.

Be Tranformed By the Renewing of Your Mind [Romans 12:2]

This is my first ‘reinterpretation’ post, but i will link other related bible verses to this post as soon as i post them. We should find that patterns form, and more light should be shed upon the essence of Yeshua and Yehoveh [What an ‘apt’ idiom ‘Shed light upon’… that is what God does right, through revelations, clarification etc]

Read John 1:1-18

  • So do you believe that this was prophecy for Yeshua Hamoshiach [Jesus Christ – sorry, i’m trying to abandon English]?
  • It seems even he had to accept Yehovehs light, just like we do. We tend to ignore it and prefer to stay in darkness. Perhaps because its easier.. What will it take for you to walk towards the light?.. Do it
  • Even Scientists would agree, light is one of the most fundamental things in the universe. If  you are blessed with vision, look at the nature around you, around the world. Think about our creator, Yehoveh who made all things, including you and your ability to see his creation. We should ‘give him weight’ [glory and honour] and definitely should not make light of [qalal – scorn, disparage] what we are truly privileged [mishpat – usually means judgement whether favourable or unfavourable, divine law, right or privilege] to have. [Side note: this is interesting, i was going to say ‘truly blessed to have’, but blessed [ashar] means happy, and that would have been a wrong translation. So in using the word mishpat, its revealed how we should give Yehoveh ‘glory and honour’ whether his judgement is favourable or unfavourable to us. We shouldn’t disparage God because things dont go our way, because its not about our way and his judgement will always be good.]

  1. Wonderful….thank you….I will be “arising and shining” with YHWH’s power enabling me.

Very interesting. Would like to see more of this.

    Love that

  4. So I am doing a girls (JrHi) devotion on the Valiant Warrior (Proverbs 31 woman) and am at verse 15 (yod). She rises also while it is still night and gives food to her household. Doing my first word study on QUWM with an eye on night and gives food. Your post has been incredibly helpful, right along the line of what I see the valiant warrior doing. Thanks!
