In the Garden if Eden, the serpent says to Chavvah

Firstly, Yahovah had said of the tree of knowledge of good and evil…

“for on the day you eat of it you shall surely die.”

The Serpent has the ability to speak and to reason, and is identified with wisdom whereby it says:

Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You  shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden,

3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The Hebrew word for subtle is ‘Aruwm’ [Ayin, Resh, Vav, Mem]. A related word is Arowm and means naked [a sense of exposure – when an enemy is captured, he is stripped and an eye is carefully kept upon him. In the Ancient times nakedness was likened to shame, uncleanness, dishonour]. Aruwm means cunning, shrewd, crafty, sly. Further related words include ‘Uwr [Ayin, Vav, Resh] meaning, to awaken, rouse up, to be bare, exposed. Avar [Ayin, Vav, Resh], means to blind, put a film over the eyes. Ar [Ayin, Resh], is the word for a foe, adversary.

We can see the nature of the enemy, he is crafty and against what is good. He appealed to Chavvahs  emotions whereby he told her she’d be ‘like a God’, further he appealed to ignorance seeing that his claims could not be proven false/as lies [until actually disobeying Yahovah] so therefore Chavvah in her ignorance believed the enemy thus leading to her disobedience.

Its easy for us with hindsight to look at her and say that she shouldn’t have eaten the fruit because Yahovah told her not to, but i dont think she had the same concept of him as we do. We know the effects of sin, of evil seeing that we are all Chavvahs children and we have knowledge of good and evil. But prior to her disobedience, Chavvah was innocent, she would walk naked with no shame she knew only of Yahovahs goodness and nothing of his judgement, so what could she have compared anything to?

There was no proof that the serpent was a liar and that they would not surely die, but at the same time, there was no proof for Yahovahs statement [of truth] that they would surely die. This isn’t a catch 22 because there is one way that will always be true and right and that is trusting the Lord and following him. This way was eternal life in the garden which of course was taken from Adam and Chavvah due to their disobedience and i guess distrust of the Lord who had created and had given them everything.

The serpents statement could never be true as it is a lie, but Chavvah would not know it is a lie unless she eats the fruit, disobeying Yahovah.  Yahovahs statement could never be false as it is truth, but how would Chavvah know it is a truth?

One choice is that she would have to disobey Yahovah but that has disastrous consequences. Another way is through faith and assured belief. Chavvah did not show this and for this reason, anything and everything could be said in contradiction of his word and lies would potentially be believed. Only the strength in her faith  could be the proof for the truth in what Yahovah said and of course this avoids the negative consequences and reaps all the positive ones.

Remember “absence of evidence is not evidence of absence”. Just because we cannot see Yahovah it does not mean he doesnt exist. Just because we cannot see him working in our life does not mean that he isnt. Just because we have no reason to suspect that there is someone else directing our path does not mean that there is not someone else directing our paths. Some think that Chavvah was bad but we are worse. I mean come on we not only have an example from Chavvah, but we have had numerous miracles, signs and wonders from prophets and to top it all off, Yahouwshua came and yet we STILL doubt and commit sin. Yahovah must be sighing, shaking his head thinking ‘These people…’

There really is only ONE way, its the truth and is Yahouwshua.
