To discover is to:

  1. detect; identity: determine the existence, presence, or fact of
  2. learn: get to know or become aware of, usually accidentally
  3. make a new finding; fall upon: find unexpectedly
  4. unwrap: make known to the public information that was previously known only to a few people or that was meant to be kept a secret

To recover is to:

  1. get or find back
  2. recuperate: get over an illness or shock
  3. regain a former condition after a loss;
  4. regain or make up for
  5. reclaim: reuse (materials from waste products)
  6. cover anew
