Philosophy: Metaphor of the Sun; Form of the Good

Plato uses the sun as a metaphor for the source of “illumination” [could be seen as intellectual illumination], which he held to be the Form of the Good. This ‘good’ can be viewed as Yahovah. NB i will be writing my views in brackets, these are not what Plato said but is my take on the situation.

The Sun is described in a simile as the child or offspring of the Form of the Good, in that, like the sun which makes physical objects visible and generates life on earth, the Good makes all other Universals intelligible [via nous-faith], and in some sense provides being to all other Forms, though the Good itself exceeds being. It is an absolute measure of justice – see post on Platos justice.

Plato writes that the Form (Idea) of the Good is the ultimate object of knowledge [knowledge of God], although it is not knowledge itself [knowledge comes from the Read more of this post

Philosophy: Platos Analogy of the Divided Line

This is the divided line

AB represent shadows and reflections of things  in water, solid, smooth and polished bodies [they do not exist]

BC represents the physical things themselves

CD represents mathematical reasoning and objects, lines [not as we draw them but as they are]

DE represents philosophical reasoning [understanding, as the ability to sense, or know something, immediately]

AC is the visible world i.e. Earth which we have illusions nd beliefs of reality. CE is the intelligible world i.e. Heaven where one uses hypotheses of reason only as Read more of this post

Philosophy: The Earth is in Heavens Shadow

In Genesis is says we were created in Yahovahs image. But what is an image? Do we look like him?

Well we know he is spirit so we can’t. The Hebrew word for image is Tselem which means shadow. The word tsalal means to be or become or grow dark [it has a sense of hovering over. It also means to  sink, be submerged i.e. covered over by something like a shade.

Tsela [rib] is the word used for what woman was made out of [she comes from mans ‘shadow’ in a sense]. More specifically, it means any of the paired bony cartilaginous bones that stiffen the walls of the thorax and protect the organs beneath. Also means ‘side’; the favouring of one side

Roots

TsL – in a place of shadow, hiding in the shadows. The shadow is shade (as a form of protection), but it is also a copy outline of the original form i.e. a representation. Yahuwshua as a man was a shadow of Yahuwshua, and if we think he is amazing, how much more amazing is the real being of Yahovah?#

LL – When night comes, the night sky is rolled out like a scroll. When daylight comes, the night sky is rolled up a scroll.

The shadow of death [tsalmaveth] refers figuratively to distress, extreme danger. The person is not death, but is in deaths shadow. We are in the shadow of Read more of this post
